Closets fail because they are designed for storage, not for the specific person using them. A closet designed around how you actually live — what you hang, what you fold, what you store — works. A standardized closet often fails.
The Wardrobe Audit
Before designing closet organization, audit what you actually own: count hanging items, folded items, shoes, accessories. Most people dramatically overestimate how much hanging space they need and underestimate folded storage needs.
Double Hang
Double hanging — two clothing rods at different heights — doubles the hanging capacity of a given wall section. The lower rod should be at 42 inches for shirts and the upper at 70 inches for longer items like coats and dresses.
